FREE THINGS TO DO IN BRANSON

Branson, MO – August 20, 2020

Branson, Missouri is known as the Midwest’s top family destination. There is a never ending choice of fun things to do including music and comedy shows, theme parks, aquariums and museums, shopping, dining, golf and a whole lot more. What you might not know though, is some of the many fun things to do are FREE!

#1 TABLE ROCK LAKE
Bring your own boat, jet ski, canoe or kayak and spend some of your time in Branson having FREE fun on the water. Table Rock Lake offers over 800 miles of shoreline which allows for all kinds of water activities. The most popular Table Rock activity is fishing and why not when you can choose from 12 different species of fish. With all that shoreline you can also find plenty of places to fish from the bank.

#2 LAKE TANEYCOMO
Lake Taneycomo runs right through Branson. This cold-water lake is stocked annually with approximately 750,000 rainbow trout and also has brown and cutthroat trout. Many believe that it holds the next world record brown trout. Taneycomo is also home to several bass species, sunfish, suckers, walleye and crappie.

#3 RIVERS AND STREAMS
The rivers and streams that flow into both lakes are FREE to use where allowed. They are perfect for fishing, floating, relaxing on their banks, sitting around a campfire, skipping rocks, catching crawdads, or playing in the water and enjoying the natural surroundings of the beautiful Ozarks that surround Branson.

#4 DEWEY SHORT VISITORS CENTER
Near the Table Rock Dam is the FREE Dewey Short Visitors Center. It offers beautiful murals, interactive exhibits and displays about the dam’s construction and native wildlife. The grounds around the building offers picnic areas and sites for fishing or swimming. Several hiking trails also start and end at the Visitor Center. Be sure to visit the Table Rock Dam since you are close by. It’s a great place for photos.

#5 SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS FISH HATCHERY
The Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery, located below the dam, is another FREE attraction. The center has several beautiful aquariums showcasing Missouri’s native fish and especially big trout. Families love to walk through the fish hatchery watching the trout being fed. Self-guided and conducted tours are available.

#6 TABLE ROCK LAKESHORE TRAIL
If you enjoy hiking, this trail is 2.2 miles long and runs from the Dewey Short Visitor Center to the Table Rock State Park Marina. As you bike or hike, the trail offers beautiful views of Table Rock Lake. It also takes you through Table Rock State Park.

#7 LAKESIDE WILDERNESS AREA
Lakeside Wilderness Area is right in the middle of town. But, you would never know it when you are on the trails. It is a pristine slice of nature you will appreciate and enjoy. The trail leads to the shores of Lake Taneycomo. There is plenty of great scenery to enjoy.  It is a surprising, remote area with the city around you that reveals the beauty of this special area of America.

#8 HENNING STATE FOREST
The 1,534 acre Henning State Forest is another FREE thing you can do in the Branson area. It offers spectacular views, nature trails, and nature studies. There is a naturalist on hand to answer questions and a beautiful scenic lookout that provides an incredible view. Keep an eye out for wildlife throughout your hike. Bring your camera or have your smart phone ready to take pictures along the way.
